Kim Nelson Retrospective

Yass, NSW - 12-27 September 2025

The Kim Nelson Retrospective was a landmark show hosted at Tyger Gallery in Yass. The show ran from 12-27 September with a Grand Opening event next door to Tyger Gallery in the Memorial Hall on Saturday 13 September.

The Retrospective at Tyger Gallery featured works never seen before in a gallery, including prints, sketches, understudies, mixed media and oils.

The Grand Opening in the Memorial Hall featured speeches by Kim's brother, Tony, Kim's daughter, Caitlin and Kim's friend and Tyger Gallery representative, Sara Phemister. There was live music by Daniel Kelly, Anna Ransom and Steve Grieve. On display was a selection of Kim's ephemera (paint palettes, media clippings, childhood works, etc) and his well known works (not for sale).

Across the road on the side of the Oddfellows' Hall, Kim's niece, Katherine Nelson, was painting a 6 metre long mural in real-time in memory of Kim and his art and community legacy. â€‹

Background

Kim Nelson was an outstanding and highly accomplished artist, an incredible community organiser and contributor, and a legend of the Australian arts scene. 2025 marks ten years since his passing - a terrible loss still keenly felt by the countless artists, art lovers, and people who knew and loved him and his work.
