". . . And then you get an artist like Kim Nelson. No obvious fixed style. He's fluid - realist, surrealist, symbolist, even abstract at times - but his women . . . Their beauty is strength. They stare at the viewer - or at the distant horizon - with a purpose. There's an almost tangible internal power in them, a confidence. They're modern and liberated, but not stereotyped. And they're beautiful. But they're nothing like Waterhouse's ideal. Nelson is a modern painter, painting modern women, even when his settings are classical. And his vision makes a statement. . . ."

Can Assist Calendar 2008
Kim Nelson has been approached to organize some body painting to feature in an upcoming charity calendar. The charity in question is Can Assist which raises money to support cancer victims. Kim's undertaking involves organizing six very different artists (himself included) to complete a work in their respective styles on a nude model. This undertaking will occur in late May though the calender will not be available until the end of the year.
"We are all nervous as hell as none of us have ever done a body painting before" says the artist. ABC Television program 'Stateline' will film the proceedings for a story to be aired later in the year. Kim would like to thank paint manufacturer, Matisse Derivan, for kindly sponsoring this endeavour with their range of Tim Gratton Body Paint.

STOP PRESS
The body painting project for Can-Assist took place on 26th May 2007 and Kim Nelson chose to reprise his artwork 'Burnt Sienna' as it is so well known in the region.
ABC Television programme 'Stateline' was on hand to film the proceedings and the story will air on Friday 1st June at 7.30pm on the ABC (Australia). Kim would like to congratulate all the artists, models and folk in general, who made the undertaking possible.
